SciSpinner Max

A two-axis clinostat that measures what it does.

Independent frame and core axes, a 167 mm sample chamber with camera, lighting and environment sensors, and a detachable motion sensor module that reports the time-averaged gravity at the sample position.

Motion

Two frames, constant velocity

Geared stepper motors drive the frame and core independently. At unequal speeds the gravity vector sweeps every orientation; the sample feels 1 g at every instant and no persistent direction. Default settings follow Clary et al. (2022).

Measurement

⟨g⟩ measured, not assumed

A motion sensor module plugs in where the sample goes. A validation run reports the time-averaged gravity over 2 min, 15 min, 1 h and the whole run, so the number in your methods section comes from your own instrument.

Observation

Camera, lighting, environment

A 12 MP camera in the core takes stills and timelapse, with an 850 nm illuminator for the dark. Temperature and humidity are logged at 1 Hz; 130 addressable LEDs give scheduled day/night lighting. Data goes to a USB drive as CSV and images.

Web interface

From the touchscreen or any browser

The instrument hosts its own Wi-Fi network and web interface. No internet connection, no account, no cloud.

Sensors page, Gravity tab: live time-averaged gravity with 15 minute, 1 hour and whole-run averages and a history chart
Sensors › Gravity: ⟨g⟩ over four windows during a validation run.
Sensors page, Rotation tab: rotation rate about each axis plotted over time
Sensors › Rotation: rate about each axis from the motion sensor module.

Documents

Datasheet, manuals and software

Full specifications are in the datasheet. Every instrument ships with the three manuals; software updates are free for the life of the instrument and install from a USB drive.
